Album Grace Hollows a beauty editorial

August 26, 2010

Here is a quick peek share of a recent editorial Shoot I did . I add these images to my professional Fashion and Beauty photography Site and I am currently submitting the retouched images to the editor to consigned the images for me to shoot, but as you can see by these image which are mostly RAW, there was not too much retouching involved in this shoot, Grace has excellent skin actually I would dare to say its perfect and a personality to match. Grace (the model) is a new face at elite and I would say she will definitely overtake the industry. I'm hoping to see her this fashion week 2010.

It is officially Summer to me. Because there are so many Great Shoots!

June 1, 2010

It seems that ever year around this time I get all the cool calls about shoots, I listen to the caller make my assement and submit my bid.

Yes, these are big commercial projects that require a bidding process regardless if they like your work the best from the begining.  The odd thing about it is how the call came:

Well 2 weeks ago I was going over some old client paperwork and came upon my W2 form to ketchum an award winning PR firm that had hired me to photograph a Federal Express VP last year. I was a little peeved at myself for never trying to call them for any real work, real shoots other than a PR head shot and then a really odd thing happened. "They called me!" Yes, well not right there and then, but about 2 hours later I get a phone call from the executive that hired me last year to tell me that her client had looked at my website and pulled some images that they liked and they wanted to put together a shoot in June.  of course I'm trying to contain myself and I think I did a good job, I still asked all the right questions and got adequate answers back but they still drop that, "of course we are still looking at other photographers at this time, so can you submit a bid for this type of job and we will get back to you."  ARRRGGG! okay, so I feel a little rushed to give a number. No issues I find one that I'm comfortable with based on the licencing of the images and then shes gone........   off into the empty sound of a disconected phone and I must wait for years for the answer to come. Well not years but you know what I mean.

So a few days pass and I do hear back from Ketchum asking me about logistics and site scouting, these are all great signs as it seems it all pointing at me right now, but the client has no approved my quote yet.  So I never did tell you who the client is did I? well for all intent and purposes it still ketchem but its obviously their client I'm doing the shoot for. someone usually big, who can afford their fees. as Ketchum is really big themselves.

The last client I did work for through them was, uh, who was that again? oh yes, Federal Express, Well this one has Wings as well, Well many many wings actually.

I'll let you know when I hear back from them, I dont want any bad luck here.

Photographing the FLow of a Silk Dress – Momo Falana

May 19, 2010

I have been periodically working on images I shot in February, One series was of a girl from Chicago named Brittany, we had shot over a course of several days with no true direction, just a desire to shoot together and make some wonderful artistic images.   So we took a walk over to MoMo SoHo - Momo Falana,  237 Centre St

slight hop with flow in Silk

(between Grand St & Broome St) New York, NY 10013  a silk dress designer near my downtown photo studio and had a talk with Momo, the owner, I had previously photographed several of here dresses before and she was more than thrilled with Brittany. Well we got some great pieces and headed back to start photographing them over the course of 2 days.  sMake-up was provided by Yekiov and Hair was Created by Mint!.

So it was a long practice getting the jumps right, "There is a secret to a good jump with Silk in a photograph" once she got it we were good to go, the flow and motion with the fit of the dress worked great on her. a few images are here on the blog. Let me know what you think.

New branding and updates for Ken Jones photography – New Sites

May 16, 2010

Hello all,

I have been very busy trying to make the content of my main site very relevant to my style of photography, I am also in the process of removing all my flash galleries and making them more search friendly, I know this takes away a certain beauty and simplicity that a flash photo gallery can add. but it is definitely getting in the way of proper search results for photographers here in nyc. I have also been in the process of adding more link backs as well as making separate sites for different areas of my photography business. Most of my reader will already know about http:www.fultonstudio.com/site which is my general photography site, but few know about http://www.prophotonyc.com

fashion and beauty photographers in new york city - images by ken jones photography nyc

link to my beauty and fashion portfolio

which is specialized to commercial fashion and beauty photography services, as well as http://www.weddingstorynyc.com
best wedding photographer in new york city

this link will take you to my wedding photography site

which caters to mid and high level wedding photography services in ny, nj, ct and most all other surrounding states.

The other thing is the update in general of http://www.fultonstudio.com This link goes to my splash page on my main URL and then re-directs to http://www.fultonstudio.com/site which is my main information an gallery site for different photographic services. I am in the process of reorganizing the server to better streamline the data and make it easier for a client to find the correct information for the correct photographer or service. I spent the better part of last week renaming images to better reflect what is see in a search and saw the results almost immediately. Google seems to live on my server.

Anyway I will give more and more update regularly.

This Post is dedicated to Darrin Jiggetts who pass away one year ago today as my studio manager and friend. Darrin you are so very missed with all that you have every touched!

For Photographers and Retouchers – Creating clean skin with all its texture

April 21, 2010

One of the most sought after retouching tricks is how to clean up the skin without losing the texture and detail, something you may see in make-up and beauty ads everywhere. The technique is pretty time consuming and is really only worthwhile when doing ad work or very high end editorials, But the results make all other retouching  just look bad.

I trained one of my interns in this technique and to fortify what she learned I had her make this video of her retouching one of Alex Covo's beauty images.

This will take some practice to get it looking smooth and clean as it will require you to pay close attention to detail.

Just remember not to retouch your retouching.

Good Luck!

I need time on my side.

August 5, 2009

I enjoy working. Working sustains and keeps me going. The problem is not a lack of work or even the quality of the work I’ve been doing, it’s being able to do my own work – my own signature projects. I haven’t had a solid moment to devote to the projects that are mine. Projects that spark your interest, that catch your attention, that make you think.

The Ein “flight” shots that i did a few months are that kind of project. What’s been done so far is good, but there is room for much more. I want to bring Ein back to do some more shots. I have a few things in mind. i have to contact Oscar at elite to arrange for something – haven’t touched base with him since Darrin’s services.

Well-produced projects require good creative talent. I want to begin on these projects as soon as possible, but one of my favorite makeup artists, Yeikov, is away on vacation. his work is very good and he has the kind of easy going attitude that works well on a photo shoot. Melanie Harris is good, too. I love her work. In fact, there are a lot of good creative people out there. For example, Kenny a hairstylist from 351 hair studio who has done some work for me. Kenny is good. I like his work. The problem is that he styles hair very slowly. Speed is of the essence during a photo shoot. The shots need to get done. Kenny is good, but his goal should be to add more speed to his work. He needs to work on his timing.

My goal is to make more time for some of my own projects.
